The idea behind Blend was first conceived in 2017 when Aleezay was running Google’s Occupational Health programme, remotely assessing 25,000 employees across 29 different cities. Having come in from the traditional public health sector where it was only possible to treat people on a 1:1 basis each day and watching waiting lists increase for patients because of that, it became obvious that digital health delivery was going to be the future.

Meanwhile, since 2016 Cillian has been developing embedded risk management products through partnerships both as an insurer, for insurers and as the founder of his own claims automation insurtech. Combining with Aleezay's deep knowledge of health it became clear that there was a significant opportunity to reduce health risks by increasing access to digital health partners - allowing society to move towards proactive illness prevention instead of our chronically reactive and costly approach to health.
